  • 1 kg white fleshed fish - gutted and cleaned
  • 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 medium onion - sliced
  • 3 pieces dried shiitake mushrooms [optional]
  • 1/2 cup julienned carrots
  • 1/2 cup julienned red or green bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tsp cornflour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • oil for frying
  • extra salt for the fish
