Ingredients

  • 5 cups 1-inch cubes challah, air dried for 2 hours 3 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 cups half and half or whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup golden raisins/sultanas

  • 3 to 3½ cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • ½ tablespoon instant yeast
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 cup warm whole milk
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons room temperature butter (slightly cool)
  • 1 egg mixed with ½ tablespoon water for egg wash
  • Hershey-style Chocolate Syrup
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
